Nancy Lee Combs’ music was simply a form of personal expression and enjoyment until she wrote a new Christmas carol for the Sunday school Christmas pageant five years ago. The carol, “Enter the Stable,” was an instant hit with the children and the audience, but Nancy was reluctant to take credit for it. “The music and words came from somewhere else, and it all rhymed, it all fit,” she says. “I just listened and wrote it down.” Some 20 copyrighted pieces later, she decided it was time to do something else with the songs she believes are a gift from God, to be shared. Soon she had 11 songs and hymns which she professionally recorded with full instrumentation by one of Detroit’s top folk rock bands, Grievous Angel. She plays her own piano, dulcimer and some guitar. The result is the new CD, I Will Walk With You, a benefit for the Open Door homeless program at Detroit’s Fort Street Presbyterian Church. “We are honored to be included in this project—it’s a wonderful collection of new music,” said Grievous Angel musician Ron Pangborn, who also produced and arranged the CD. By day, Nancy is a marketing communications consultant and writer for non-profits, health care, and faith-based organizations.
